Today I want to share with you what you need to know to generate consistent revenue. The key word here is consistent and that word is everything. Consistency is what will change your business and your life. How bad do you really want the life you say you want? Well your consistency will tell us all we need to know.

How long should it really take to generate consistent revenue in your online business? A lot of people talk about how to do this but not many bring up how long it should take and what it is going to cost you. Not just in terms of money, but in terms of your time.

I was recently doing some phone calls 1:1 with potential clients that were interested in one of my programs (yes, I still do my own sales calls!). People are usually shocked by that. But here’s the thing, these calls are GOLD! I get to hear from my ideal customers and hear their struggles, their wants, and it honestly feels like I should be paying them for their time. A couple of days ago I was chatting with a woman and everything she said has inspired this blog today.

She reminded me of all of the things I asked when I first got started like:

  • Do I need a certification or training before I can start my online business?
  • How will I know if I am giving enough value when I sell my first product?
  • I see a lot of your case studies and testimonials with big results. Is this the norm or are they expectations? What makes them successful and will it happen for me?

Based on that, I am giving you a sneak peak of what went down on that call and how I could feel the shift in her voice and her mindset. From my own experience of my business and then working with hundreds of other women on theirs, I know the biggest problem in their business is a lot of times they think they have to have support.

  • They wished they had a group of peers that were also entrepreneurs
  • Maybe they wish their significant other was more supportive or their parents
  • They think they have no following, no one knows them, and the list goes on…

How to get out of your own way and stop self-sabotaging

Here is their #1 problem and my #1 problem and most likely your #1 problem. It’s You! Yes…you are your biggest problem in your business. Self-sabotage is a real thing and I see it time and time again and of course I catch myself doing it too. We start to think all these things and then the worst part is we believe that it’s true. We make up ridiculous ideas in our head and then we think they are facts.

How many of you have wondered am I experienced enough? Why would someone buy from me when there are a million people doing what I want to do, selling what I sell, our mind goes wild with all these questions and before you know it we have convinced ourselves that it’s not the right time, I’m not ready, I’m not good enough. Have you said any of those comments to yourself before?

Let me ask another question…Have you purchased from someone before and you are not quite sure if they had any certificates or degrees in what you bought? Have you ever hired someone or purchased an online training program but you never asked what certificates do they hold?

We believe something for ourselves to be true yet we break our own rules when it comes to others. If that is the only thing you takeaway from this, please understand that we make exceptions for our own rules and we need to be treated like we treat everyone else. Be a little kinder to yourself. Give yourself a little more grace and a little less guilt and I promise, you will be okay.

Someone reading this I bet needed to read that message today. Now, the next question is when should I start? If you have seen the quotes that say the best time to start was 5 years ago, the next best time is now. It is so true.

  • The sooner you start the easier it will be.
  • It is only getting more and more saturated out there.
  • Don’t wait any longer, the longer you wait the harder it will be.
  • We have a huge advantage starting now, don’t miss that opportunity.

I only started my online business a little over 2 years ago and I teach so many others how to get started right now and they are still getting major success so don’t think you have missed the boat. Or in 2 years you will be saying why didn’t I start 2 years ago.

The #1 mistake people make when launching their online business

The #1 mistake I make when people launch their online business is they take too long. They get ready to get ready. That “get ready” phrase kills me. People think they should get ready before they start but getting started, putting yourself out there, jumping on a Facebook live, starting to build your email list, guess what? That IS getting ready. You don’t need to work on your online business for a year or two before you can make money.

In my signature program called Launched in 90, we have so many case studies of people selling their very first products and programs within 90 days. It can happen quickly. It can actually happen when you are getting ready which I know can feel hard to believe but you’ve just got to get started and you will see what I mean.

Why you need to get started now and not wait any longer

Please don’t wait until everything is perfect. There is never a perfect time to launch your business, a product, and so on. But here’s the thing you will figure it out.  Whatever stage of life you are in, you will figure it out. I can promise you the best time to start is now. You will regret if you wait.

One thing I did that changed EVERYTHING

Last point that I want to make…I did something when I first started and I wish I would have realized the value in this sooner. Being different is so much better than doing what everyone else is doing. We think if we are going to do what everyone else is doing online than we need to be like everyone else. Not true!! That is where your business won’t take off.

If you do what everyone else is doing but you’re the newbie, most people won’t pick you. You need to ask yourself how can I be different? What will separate me from everyone else? I used to think that having a local business (if you don't know I have two children’s performing arts academies that I have owned now for almost 16 years) and I didn’t really share that with people because I thought it would make me look bad coming into the online space and not having any experience online.

I didn’t talk about it too much but then when I started to talk about my experience and I realized how different it made me, my business started to take off.  Don’t try to copy what you see out there. Ask yourself what is different about you, what will make you stand out from the rest?

Here’s what you need to know:

  1. You don’t need certificates, degrees, etc. your experience is all you need!!
  2. The perfect time is now…DO NOT wait!
  3. What can you do to stand out and be different?

Now, I want to continue this conversation over in the She’s Building Her Empire FB group.  If you are not in there yet, you can join at shesbuildingherempire.club and get in the free group.  Get in there introduce yourself and feel free to share a big takeaway from today’s blog!
