So many people are looking for low-cost ways to get traffic from social media without spending a lot of money on paid advertising.
There are two different types of traffic, organic traffic and paid traffic. Organic traffic refers to things like posting on social media, going live on Facebook, writing a blog, or even putting out a podcast.
Paid traffic is when you are actually paying money for things such as Google ad words or Facebook ads.
Why Organic Traffic Takes Longer
The more established platforms, such as Facebook, want you to pay to play. They are not going to reward new accounts with someone who has mediocre and inconsistent content! They want to see you paying for ads and trying to increase your following.
Most of the time people assume that they will just organically increase their following and go viral. Well, here's the truth – it is way harder to go viral then you think! The people who go viral have a set strategy and work hard at it!
Tell me, are you trying to get leads organically, are you paying, or a combination of both?
Tracking Your Analytics
One of the truly important parts of social media is tracking your analytics. Each week my team tells me what our numbers were for the best post, what engagement is, the number of followers we have on each platform, etc. These numbers help us with knowing exactly what our customers want and what they are liking.
My podcast is called the Foot Traffic Formula podcast. The podcast is one of the best ways that we get our organic traffic. When we are tracking the analytics for the podcast, my team and I track and see what the 5 most popular podcasts are. It clearly lets us see what people want to hear.
One time, I interviewed someone for the podcast and the subject happened to include something about Instagram. The episode was so popular! When my team told me how well the podcast was doing, I released complementary content about Instagram. It turns out that 3 out of the 5 most popular podcasts were those episodes around Instagram! It goes to show you that tracking your analytics will help you grow your organic traffic even more!
Keep in mind – if you don't have a podcast, that's okay! That was just a story about how tracking your analytics on social media and assessing why a post is getting so many likes or comments can help you and your business.
Stop Complaining About The Algorithm
People are constantly saying to me that they do not have the time or the money to truly invest in organic traffic and especially paid traffic. We need to understand that we actually need to work with the algorithm! That is the only way we are going to increase traffic and engagement.
These social media platforms are always working on the algorithm and releasing something new for users. When these releases happen we should invest and look into what they release as an opportunity to grow our organic leads!
When the social media platforms release a new feature, this means that they want you to use it. For example, Instagram just released “reels”. This is what Instagram is pushing right now and what they want you to do! Make sure to try some reels!
There are so many benefits to following the algorithm and jumping on new apps and new features of social media. In the beginning, people are more forgiving when everyone is first starting out! Everyone is learning together. The longer something like Instagram reels is around, the more proficient people will expect you to be. The sooner you jump on the bandwagon, the better!
It's time to ask yourself, what does my preferred platform want from me? Just look for what they are actively promoting and talking about in their ads. How can you use that to your advantage? It’s time to start utilizing the algorithm!
Use Search Engine Platforms For Your Benefit
Do you ever feel like when you are looking for organic leads that people come and look at your social media or your landing page but then leave without purchasing? There's a reason for that. When you are posting on social media or paying to run Facebook ads, you are putting the customer's need for your product in their head. They have the opportunity to change their mind.
This is where search engine platforms can work for you! People can search for you! This means a higher qualified buyer will stick around longer because it is their idea! YouTube and Pinterest are just some examples of search engine platforms that work really well for business owners. You just need to keep the content value high! That way when people search for a topic that’s related to your business, they will see content that increases your credibility and makes them want to stick around.
I'm not saying you shouldn't be on Facebook and Instagram! NO! I'm saying that if you are not going to pay to play, then you need to be smart and utilize the search engines, like YouTube and Pinterest, as well!
Bonus Tip!
I want to make sure that you are better prepared for everything! No more creating content and rolling it out the same day or panicking and creating something on the spot. Here are my best tips to get you started creating amazing content that your customers will love:
Subject lines are key!
- You have about a fraction of a second to get their attention! The first sentence of the blog post, the headline of a Facebook live, the subject line of an email, etc. is very important!
- Start explaining what the content is about and hook them.
- There is always someone who is new who doesn't know you. They need to see you are credible and what you are talking about.
- Plan out what you are going to do so you are prepared and come across like the leader that you are.
What is your intention?
- What are you trying to get out of the post?
- Don't just post to post!
- Create a call to action
Quantity vs. Quality
- You can absolutely do both! In the beginning, the quality is what matters!
- You need to sustain the quality and the quantity of your social media. You need to find your balance! When you first start out, start with planning 3-5 posts or Facebook lives, etc,
Organic traffic is not as easy as it used to be. It will always be slower for you to grow. You now understand the importance of a healthy balance of paying to play and organic traffic. Start by making sure that your content is valuable, relevant, and shareable and start blowing up that organic traffic!
